DO I HAVE TO WEAR A MASK?
Yes. Governor Baker issued a revised Mask Order effective November 6, 2020 requiring all people in Massachusetts over 5 years of age to wear face masks or cloth face coverings in all public places, whether indoors or outdoors, even where they are able to maintain 6 feet of distance from others.
DO I GET FINED FOR NOT WEARING A MASK?
Yes. Violations of the face coverings mandate can result in civil fines of up to $300 per violation.
HOW CAN I TELL MY FRIENDS TO WEAR THEIR MASK?
Keep it friendly but firm. They’re your friend so it should come from a place of respect. You could start by acknowledging what they dislike about masks , also, you could say something like, "It would really make me feel better if you had a mask on." Or, "Since you don't have a mask on, let's meet at another time."
You can also let them know it’s not about you but about everyone who lives with you. Nobody wants to pass this onto grandma!
CAN I WEAR ANY TYPE OF MASK?
Yes, you can wear any face masks or cloth face coverings. Different masks have different levels of protection and we ask the general public to leave those N-95 ones to our frontline workers.
DO KIDs NEED TO WEAR MASKS?
Face coverings are encouraged but not required for children between the ages of 2 and 5.
CAN I SPREAD COVID IF I FEEL OK?
Unfortunately yes.
Evidence continues to show that a large percentage of people who test positive for COVID-19 don’t have any obvious symptoms and asymptomatic spread definitely plays a role in community spread.
Even if you feel good, you might be infected, and you can infect those around you.

IS COVID THAT DEADLY?
More than nine months into the pandemic, the coronavirus has infected more than 16 million people in the US, killing more than 300,000. Whether patients survive depends on a host of factors, including age, underlying illnesses and the level of medical care available. Are there exceptions to the mask order for health reasons?
Yes. Residents cannot be cited for not wearing a mask when they are unable to do so “due to a medical or disabling condition.” The order also states that residents who decline to wear a mask due to a medical condition “shall not be required to produce documentation verifying the condition.”
Additionally, mask-wearing is not required when it will “impede communication by or with a person who has a hearing impediment or other disability.”
